Somewhere in their childhood they were robbed of their true selves and their ability to self love. This caused what’s called toxic core shame. They feel worthless for even existing so in order to deal with that, they have to prop themselves up by connecting their identities to things bigger than them that are perceived to be better. Like being white and American.
