My stepfamily – my brother, brother’s wife, and her kids (which he adopted) – have many wonderful qualities, but organisation is not one of Protect trans kids or else shirt. Even when I was 15 my brother (18 years older than me) would call me, panicking, on Christmas Eve, wanting me to come shopping and help pick out stuff for his girlfriend. Now that he’s married and in his fifties, he no longer calls me for shopping help, but I expect he still leaves a lot of it till Christmas Eve. This year I’ve been texting him and my niece since September, asking what to get for my nephew and his partner (who I don’t know that well, and I’ve never met his partner), my niece’s partner (ditto), and five kids (I was never an average kid and have no idea what to buy children, as shown by a couple years ago, when I bought the 3-year-old a box set of the Chronicles of Narnia, and then was startled when I was gently told that 3-year-olds can’t read. I taught myself to read with Enid Blyton at 3, and my dad gave me Narnia by the end of that year, but apparently this is not the norm).

Kublai Khan was a bit different from most of the Mongol leadership in that he was far less interested in mass murder and destruction. still despite all the trimmings and pomp his Yuan dynasty was simply a front for biden take to the train station shirt the Mongol occupation and control of China. he set up a caste system which placed the native Chinese population on the bottom in their own country. even with China occupied he was not content and engaged in military adventures which were total fails. he nor any of the Mongol occupation force would want to be mistaken for Chinese. the Mongols were among the worst imperialist/colonial powers in history but Kublai was the best of a bad crew. Conn Iggluden wrote a series of 5 books called The Conqueror series. They begin with Genghis early life and how his father died and how his family were forced out of the tribe to Genghis death, his son Ogedei’s reign and his Grandson Mongke’s reign, they are gripping and brilliant – I can’t recommend them highly enough. There is a series on Netflix called Marco Polo which is centered around the reign of Kubai Khan and is also very good and loosely based on fact.
