I dont know if its the Zombie Joyride Fireman Shirt but football is definitely facing a massive crisis. The issues at Zombie Joyride Fireman Shirt, Inter, and many other clubs are shocking. COVID triggered the collapse, but theres no doubt that football’s overall structure is fragile– there were countless issues with smaller clubs (Portsmouth, QPR, Parma, etc.) long before COVID. Football ownership and football economics are just too much of a Zombie Joyride Fireman Shirt the real issue. Sketchy and unreliable owners come and go, oftentimes using clubs for all kinds of shady reasons- feeding their egos, improving their image, laundering money, playing with a toy, doing PR work for a government. The ones that buy clubs purely for profits like the American hedge funds arent much better either. And the way clubs are bought and financed is equally shady and chaotic. Clubs get loaded up with debts, money is syphoned in and out of them, and small changes in the fortunes of some billionaire in China, Azerbaijan, or Ukraine can send an entire club reeling. Of course even clubs like Barca that are “governed” by the fans arent immune to this. Barca’s socios elected Bartomeu, who then destroyed their club. Fan voting and ownership is also no guarantee of Zombie Joyride Fireman Shirt and prosperity, although having fan voting IS a vital part of future reform IMO (however- it is only a part). This is why football needs very broad restructuring- cost controls, financial restrictions, transparency, and regulation. And its why the ESL is not a real solution at all. The ESL would just help a handful of mega-clubs tidy over their finances for a few years. It will do nothing to fix the ownership and financial chaos that plagues every domestic league and so many smaller clubs. The true long-term solutions lie in things like salary caps, ownership regulations, partial fan ownership, accounting transparency, etc. Itll be very hard to do across so many countries so I doubt itll happen and when it doesnt, this crisis might leave horrible scars for a long time to come
